A record of the making of the Chattahoochee Bend orienteering map.
I started making maps for the Georgia Orienteering Club back in 1995. Here is a partial list of the maps I have made and their size:
- Cochran Mill – 3.5 sq km
- Sweetwater Creek State Park – 5.8 sq km
- FDR State Park – 13 sq km
- Joe Kurz WMA – 5.8 sq km
- Smithgall Woods State Conservation area – 11.7 sq km
That’s a grand total of 39.8 sq km of map, or 9,835 acres. The Chattahoochee Bend map will add another 12 sq km to the total when it is finished.

Hi!
I am also impressed by your presentation of your mapping project. Could I ask you how large is this the area you should survey? You have an excellent groundmaterial; what is your mapping speed? Good luck!

Thanks for your dedication- and skill!- in mapping an area that has been part of my family for generations. My grandfather was J.J. “Bud” Davis, and my father, Jannar B. Davis, grew up on “the old home place” less than a mile from the Chattahoochee.
Now that I’m semi-retired, I’d like to offer my help with your project. I’d be happy to join you in the field when I’m in town (Newnan)- notwithstanding the bugs and heat!

Wow, impressive. I was excited to see a lot of your pictures. For I have explored the park for one whole day and I actually recognize a lot of your pictures among some I have see for myself. It’s good to find this site because I could not find a whole lot of detailed info on the to be finished park.

Hiking trails, biking trails, equestrian (horse) trails…………………… no ATV trails. ATV ’s are not allowed on the park property and never will be.
